I added a geography game to the blog template. It is quite fun! I scored 90% for Europe and Asia but only 60% for North America. (Too many small islands).

Header Experiments

I have been experimenting with modifying the new Blogger templates and have found some interesting things. I will do a write up in BBD about it.

The contest winning header by Fintan is now in our footer. The usual minima-template header is above the posts for now in case i want to put it back without reinstalling the template.



The header being used now won second place in our contest. It was created by Stephen. I wanted to check it out and try it. It is a nice logo.

Changes: Upgraded Template

I upgraded the template to the new format. I haven't figured out how to add the graphic header yet. The new template style is harder to get used to. The cartoon we used to have doesn't work in the sidebar widgets so I discarded it.

We now have labels so try them out.

Young Bloggers/Young Writers

Anyone who reads my blogs for any length of time knows I like to encourage other bloggers. I love blogging and feel it has helped me make new friends and it has helped me maintain my writing skills.

When I get bored or I want something new to read I use Blog Search to find blogs. When a blog looks interesting I bookmark it and read some of the posts. I always try to comment because I like comments on my blogs and by commenting I may attract a new reader. I also know what it is like to write a good post and not have any comments.

When I find blogs written by younger bloggers I like to mention them here since most of the members are young themselves. I am cautious about this because of the "Mathew Incident".

Recently I was doing some searches as 'research' for a post at Big Blog Directory and came across a number of interesting blogs. I chose three that I thought appropriate for this blog. The bloggers are around the same age as many members of 2l2b. Furthermore, all three are actively posting in their blogs and all respond to comments.

life of a budding author by Duncan. Duncan is a young writer from the UK. He expresses himself quite well and has interesting ideas.

Lucas's Blog by Lucas. This blogger lives in Malaysia and blogs about life and technology. He also does some podcasts.

My Double Life by "Colin Night". Colin writes interesting fiction and poetry. Check out the introduction.

I Am Lazy

Wow, I really am too lazy to blog. The last time I posted an entry was February 23d of this year. Well, I'm in the right place aren't I, haha. I see Leon did most of the posting (nice job, Leon). Well, I just wanted to say hello. The reason I don't post on either blogs (Sudster and 2 Lazy) is that I have a lot of school work to do. I got a science test I have to take on Tuesday and I got some homework to do too. I still don't seem how 2 Lazy 4 Radio works. I need help with that. Over and out!

Google Maps In Statcounter

Watch Out! Gmail/Blogger Glitch

This may only effect those of us experimenting with the blogger beta (which uses the same Google sign in used by Gmail).

I signed in to Gmail and then needed to check something in my blogger account. I signed into blogger and found what I needed and then signed out. Doing this also knocked me out of Gmail! and this blogger account uses a different username and password!

Make sure you save before opening and closing Gmail when using Blogger.

Update: I tried to make this happen again and couldn't. Hopefully it was a one time screw up.

From Masta To Geek

The Masta has gone and morphed into Le Geek. His new blog is coming along fine. I will change all his member links when we get accounts sorted out.

Testing New Blogger Features

I did a quick test of the new things that will be coming to blogger.

I didn't make the blog private and html editing doesn't work yet but it still looks nice. I did change the colour of my background in about 3 seconds and two mouse clicks.

Adding sidebar links is sooo easy now as are other sidebar elements.

Lately we have been getting comments that are obviously spam. They have to be manually posted to get past "word verification". Since the spammers want attention we give it to them by reporting any information we can to Blogger. All spam or spam-like comments are deleted. You are wasting your time.

Photo Editing And Viewing

"Super Blogger" has been experimenting with Picassa in his blog. I haven't used the program yet but it seems more of a photo viewer/organizer than an editor.

In Linux I use GIMP to do any major editing of photos. It can be weird to use but it has good tools and it is free. There are also Windows and Mac versions.

For viewing photos and doing quick touch ups I like Irfanview. It is only for Windows.

The Great Mascot Contest/De Grote Wedstrijd van de Mascotte

2 Lazy 2 Blog needs a mascot to represent us. Blog members are invited to create some silly and appropriately lazy pictures of people and/or animals.

Rules:

1. The contest is open to all members of this blog.
2. The deadline is May 31st at midnight.
3. Pictures should consist of photos or artwork that the person has a right to use and post online. Creative Commons photos at Flickr may be fine just make sure that they don't say 'nd' in the license since that means no derivative art can be made.
4. Pictures should be portrait orientation or almost square so they can be resized and fit into the sidebar.
5. The pictures must be G rated because we are an all ages group.
6. Submissions will be emailed to me and posted as anonymous entries if the group agrees to that.

Voting:

1. Voting takes place June 1 - 5.
2. Voting will use either my Buster Tests exclusively or a mix of MBT and a mail in form. The first would be easier.

A Good 'Experiment'

I have been wondering about my blogs lately. What was working and what wasn't. I play with lots of ideas and experiment with lots of blogs. This blog began because both Sam and I had things we liked to post that didn't fit our blogs. Shahid joined us and then other members did also.

We tried many different things here and some worked and some didn't. Mostly we just popped in occasionally to say hi and post something interesting. We don't hear from some members for a while but that's okay. We aren't too strict about rules here.

Today was fun because Josh posted an interesting link and 'The Masta' (aka Billy) became our newest member.

Today we have fifteen members. Over 300 posts have been written since we began 8 months ago.

I don't think we are an experiment any more. :) Thanks everyone.

Personal DNA

I took the Personal DNA survey like Shahid did and found it interesting. I came out as a Benevolent Idealist. The test is easy to take and makes you think but I found some things I didn't like.

• It uses Shockwave Flash and I found the usual problem of unreadable fonts in Firefox/Linux. In Windows using IE I had no problems.
• The test doesn't tell you you need to allow cookies. It just refuses to continue.
• The default script causes problems with Blogger and loads really slow.

There was a lot of information but basically I try to be nice and I am not always practical.

Benevolent - If you want to be different:

You spend a lot of time taking care of others, but don't forget to take care of yourself!

Sometimes you can get overcommitted, and when you sacrifice spending time with those close to you, it can make them feel unimportant.

Idealist - If you want to be different:

You take time to explore your own thoughts and ideas, but this experience would only be heightened if you opened yourself up even more to others' ideas.

Shifting Gears

For those of you who have any interest in art...you should check this out. I noticed this exihibition on Volkswagen's website a few weeks ago. Little did I know it would be coming to my college soon after. All of the contestants were young people (age 16-25) with disabilities. I finally got the new logo added to the blog. I had to resize it to 660x72 but it still looks nice. Stephen - thanks for your help with getting the template right.

I made the contest a little too complicated to calculate but the results are clear.

For the choices section a first choice was worth 3 points, a second 2 and a third 1 point. For the last two questions I just multiplied the totals by the modifiers and added to the choices results. I duplicate vote by a nonmember was left out.
